Plurking Out Loud, Plus GAX Stuff

July 18, 2009

If you are curious about my sad little life, just go here. I’ll still update this site with words and whatnot, but for the most parts, all my sporadic thoughts will be plurked out in chunky flavors. At least all the entries I did so far aren’t too similar in nature; I kinda thought it’ll be like this:

” Bumming around, watching YouTube videos of old American and British skits.”

A Toastyfrog sporadic updater I’ll never be. My observation on BlazBlue being Shinichiro Watanabe’s lost anime directorial debut after the jump.

If Telltale Games Think Their Game Is Good….

July 15, 2009

….why the hell are they just offering a single method of paying the damn game? I’m fine with the price, but supposedly there’s some old codger who paid 34 US bucks and didn’t like the first episode. What then?

That aside, the game rocks! From the Marquis puzzle to the two map quests, along with the original Guybrush voice, the king of adventure gaming is back, baby!

A Quick Thanks To A Recently-Deceased Pop Star….

July 5, 2009

- For defining the 80s, for without his presence now, that particular era is dead.

- For Thriller and Smooth Criminal, two songs which aren’t just masterpiece music videos, but also the subject of many tireless debates over which one is better.

- For his collaboration with Sega on a lot of games and influences, ranging from Moonwalker to the alleged remix of music on Sonic 3.

Late much, I know. Still, you will be missed.

You Know What’s Surreal?

June 21, 2009

Playing a saccharine Nintendo mascot game like The Legendary Starfy while Public Enemy and NWA on your iTunes playlist is blasting through your headphones.

Just a few things:

- We ain’t updating the GAX site as frequent as usual. Well, watch that space nonetheless; we’re being upgraded to be bigger, better and more badass. Okay, maybe not the badass part, but two out of three ain’t that bad.

- I’ll be posting my old articles here and on Bitmob, to justify having new content that’s game-related here. I want to relax on the weekends, dammit. If something pops up, I’ll jot it down.

Night & Day, Plus A Special Message

June 18, 2009

You would think a post I recently did on PC gaming would garner some civil discussion on how to resurrect gaming on that side. I mean, we’re all on the same side here. Keep in mind that I’m in no way backlashing PC gaming in general: it’s just gone strictly to MMOs and casual games (Sims 3, any PopCap game), since that’s where the money is at.

Boy, was I fucking wrong. Try as I might to sound as objective as I could, I get dissed by the very community I’m trying to discuss this with. Is this how you treat people with differing opinions? With hostility? (By the by, thanks to akumasho, egrest, and a bunch of others for being civil about it)

Conversely, the competition seems to handle things more civil-like when it comes to PC-talking. No name-calling, no discrediting the writer, no defensive shields being placed up. Maybe our “upstanding” community at GAX could learn a thing or two about etiquette from the people they call “X-Bots” or “pursuer of Bill’s balls”.

Just Got Off One Of The Giant Bombcast Podcasts…….

June 12, 2009

Fangirl much on Metal Gear/ Hideo Kojima, Leigh Alexander? Just kidding there (this coming from a guy who loves all things Mega Man). She brought up a lot of good points on the shitty state of Second Life business and its allegory with Playstation Home, perhaps one of the biggest waste of time Sony has crafted next to the Sony Defense Force.

Go listen! THIS is the kind of honesty and opinion-laced podcasts I want to host with fellow writers and gamers in Singapore. And no, I don’t mean the kind of honesty where it’s like “Oh, we’ll market your podcast as abrasive and edgy, just don’t say this and this” bullshit. No holds barred, baby!

Now I just need to think of a name. GeekSpeak? The Kill Screen? SuperHyperFuntime?

Border Down

June 11, 2009

borderlands-3

Damn, the more I thought about Borderlands’ game footage at E3 and the more I re-watched it, the more it’s filling up that void in my heart craving for another loot-hoarding game.

Too Human, Sacred II? Try going in an alien wasteland world and carrying guns killing mobs with three other online/offline friends. That’s much better.

No, Take Two isn’t paying me to say this on this site.

- Hitting both the Nintendo and Sony Press Cons on time without injuring myself.

I only hit the Nintendo presser; Sony’s one was way too far to reach and register on time. Regardless, I did not regret Nintendo’s one bit. Sure, the middle dragged on with Wii Fit Plus and the Motion Sensor plus. But then there’s two, I repeat, TWO new Super Mario games and a hopefully 2-D Metroid game by Tecmo. I also think that the Vitality Sensor could be used in an awesome way in the right hands. Q Entertainment and Rez, anyone?

E3 Checklist

May 30, 2009

- Hitting both the Nintendo and Sony Press Cons on time without injuring myself.

- Resist from hurling when eating United Air food. Also, get sushi and a copy of Shonen Jump from the Tokyo Airport

- Stay up all night working my butt off with news and whatnot for the site.

- Get a pic with Ignition Director of Marketing Shane Bettenhausen. Hopefully fight a game or two with him on King of Fighters XII.

- Try not to catch the pig flu.
